Who Participates in the IR Perception Study?

Institutional Investor’s surveys are based on the feedback from the world’s most influential investors and sell-side analysts. The top analysts and portfolio managers across US, European, Latin American, and Asian equities participate in our surveys.

Voter Weightings

Weighted scores are used to produce the Executive Team rankings. Votes are place-weighted only, whereby a first-place position garners four points, and a fourth-place position garners one point.

Voter Profile Segmentation

Voter names and firm names are kept strictly confidential; however, the detailed reports provide ratings that are segmented by voter characteristics to provide companies with a specific voter profile. Ratings are shown by:

• Voter location

• Assets under management

• Voter function (title)

• Voter research team position

Research is sector based, and separated by buy-side and sell-side votes. Institutional Investor simultaneously collects feedback from corporates regarding best practices in investor relations. All information collected from the survey is made available for order within a comprehensive IR Perception Study.

How are the Results Tabulated?

All underlying feedback collected from the buy-side, sell-side and corporates is available in the form of a customized, IR Perception Study with peer benchmarking, for corporate use as a means to maximize the effectiveness of investor relations efforts and investor targeting.

Voters are asked to rate the top four companies that demonstrate excellence across a range of performance attributes. Attribute ratings are aggregated to produce an overall Best Investor Relations Program placement. Some metrics include:

Most Honored Company

To earn the designation of Most Honored Company, a business must achieve two or more top-three appearances in the combined (buy-side and sell-side) results. Rank is determined by a weighted score wherein each first-place position is worth three points, second place receives two points, and third place gets one point. If a tie occurs in the weighted scores, companies are ordered according to the number of ranked positions they have received in their industry sectors.

Annual winners of the Most Honored Company designation are celebrated at regional awards dinners.

About Institutional Investor’s Corporate Research

Institutional Investor Research is fast becoming the leader of investor relations research, providing unrivaled independent analysis for companies globally. Our research is based on the expert opinions of the international investment community. We provide detailed feedback to companies about the perception of their investor relations efforts and how they can further improve the key aspects of their communication with the investment community. Through our annual studies of the global equities markets, we have exceptional access to the world’s leading investment professionals.

Each study includes detailed research around best practice across several key criteria used to measure the effectiveness of a company's IR communications. A company can therefore identify the strengths and challenges quickly of their IR strategy relative to their peer group. Alongside the best practice research we provide IROs the opportunity to compare their company practice to that of their peers, including resource allocation and the preferred means of communication with the buy and sell side.

Institutional Investor surveys buy-side analysts, portfolio managers and sell-side analysts at securities firms and financial institutions across the world to name the best investor relations programs, best CEOs, CFOs, and IR Professionals in their sectors.
